The Hallam Medical Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee

At Hallam Medical, it is important to us that every team member feels cared for and valued.

We know a diverse and inclusive environment establishes a sense of belonging among employees, making them feel more connected and productive.

In June 2023, The Hallam Medical Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee was formed. The group was created with the initiative to support and welcome a workplace environment in which employees from differing backgrounds and demographics can work together.

The committee consists of employees from different sectors of Hallam Medical who oversee fostering the culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion: Natasha Allen (Co-Lead), Lisa Locker (Co Lead), Nova Mapemba-Upton (Deputy), Charlotte Heaton (Senior Management Representative), Coda Heap, Lucie Greaves, James Derham and Daniel Goulding.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committees roles and responsibilities include relating equality, diversity and inclusion to the Hallam Medical values and objectives, outlining key goals and actionable steps to achieve them, helping institutionalise policies that support equity for all employees, and evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing efforts and adapting as needed.

So far, the group has actioned changes in the company which has led to the introduction of pronouns on emails with other ongoing projects in the works. As a business, we also love to celebrate other cultures and demographics having hosted a series of events in 2023 including Carnival, Black History Month and Movember with many more scheduled for 2024 and beyond.

What does Equality, Diversity and Inclusion mean?

Equality means offering the same rights and opportunities to all people. Diversity is understanding that each person is unique. It means embracing people’s differences, including their beliefs, abilities, preferences, backgrounds, values, and identities. Inclusion is an extension of equality and diversity.
