Hallam Medical at the UHUK Finance Directors General Meeting: Driving Efficiencies for Cost-Effective Workforce Solutions

On Tuesday, 10th June, Hallam Medical attended the Urgent Health UK (UHUK) Finance Directors General Meeting to present on how driving internal efficiencies can lead to more cost-effective workforce solutions in healthcare.

Hallam Medical partnered with Urgent Health in 2024. UHUK are a network of urgent healthcare social enterprise providers serving two-thirds of the UK population.

During the presentation, we highlighted that the demand for cost-efficient temporary staffing solutions is greater than ever. As healthcare services continue to face rising financial pressures, Hallam Medical has undertaken a significant internal transformation. By leveraging automation and innovative technology, we have enhanced operational efficiency and passed these savings on to our clients through more effective staffing support.

Our presenters, Chief Operating Officer Chris Whawell, Finance Director Julia O’Connor, and Business Manager of Strategic Sales Operations Warren Tomlinson, shared how we’ve implemented a series of internal initiatives to improve service delivery and reduce costs, including:

  • Delivering direct cost savings for healthcare services through secure electronic timesheet processing
  • Enhancing candidate onboarding via secure, web-based access to registration documentation

Efficiency savings achieved through these initiatives have been reinvested into further innovations, creating a sustainable cycle of improvement. These changes have enabled our teams to dedicate more time to managing relationships with clients and clinicians.

Services utilising our electronic timesheet solution have reported time savings of approximately four hours per week per site. This has enabled healthcare managers to focus more on patient care and service operations, rather than administrative tasks.

Throughout the testing and piloting of our new cost-efficiency programme, it was vital to Hallam Medical that the quality of our service remained unaffected. The automation of clinician onboarding is designed to enhance our processes while preserving the essential human touch and communication that underpin our service.

Our Team also spoke about future developments including:

  • Investing in AI to eliminate administrative burdens, allowing more time for client and candidate engagement
  • Automating assignment reminders for clinicians to minimise shift cancellations
  • Providing real-time, tailored agency usage insights through automated management information systems

In today’s evolving healthcare landscape, organisations must be able to flex staffing levels in line with patient demand and that requires a workforce partner you can rely on. Hallam Medical is proud to be that trusted partner, delivering efficient, cost effective, and responsive temporary staffing solutions.

Following the meeting, we received positive feedback from Conor Burke, CEO of UHUK, who attended the Finance session. He shared that the Hallam Medical case study, along with the content and discussion at the Finance Director Forum, made a strong impact and was very well received by the Finance Directors.

We would like to thank UHUK for the opportunity to speak at the Finance Directors General Meeting and share how innovation and efficiency are driving real, measurable improvements in healthcare staffing.
